Galapagos Islands

Galapagos Islands
November 9 - 19, 2008

Teeming with exotic wildlife including fur seals, marine iguanas, giant tortoises and blue-footed boobies, the Galapagos Islands have offered travelers breathtaking scenery and encounters with rare species since Darwin sailed there in 1831.

After you tour cultural sites of Ecuador in the Andes Mountains, enjoy a five-day cruise through the Galapagos Islands aboard the cruise ship Galapagos Legend.  An optional five-day post-tour extension of the Amazon is available.

This trip is offered by the Houston Museum of Natural Science through a partnership with Smithsonian Journeys Travel Adventures.  (Reservations and deposits required by May 8, 2008.)

Totality Over China

Totality Over China
July 2009

A total solar eclipse is one of nature’s most awe-inspiring events—as the moon covers the sun and plunges the land below into darkness. Dr. Carolyn Sumners, HMNS curator of astronomy, is accompanying HMNS groups to see the 2009 solar eclipse in China.  This two-week trip is designed to explore the ancient and modern wonders of China.

July 10 – 23, 2009
In July of 2009, we will visit Beijing and central China leading to our eclipse-observing site on China’s Pacific coast near Shanghai and enjoy a Yangtze River Cruise.
