Parent Information
Welcome to our Xplorations Summer Science Adventures! Safety, learning and fun are foremost during this week and we hope that this information will help your child’s camp experience go smoothly. Please be sure to read the separate page for tips and recommendations.
SIGN IN / SIGN OUT: For safety reasons your child must be signed into camp every day; you may not “drop” your child off. On the sign-in sheets there are spaces for emergency contact numbers and a spot to indicate if someone other than you is authorized to pick up your child.
LUNCH: It is recommended that children bring a sack lunch from home to be eaten during the supervised lunch hour. During the lunch hour campers will watch an educational video. You may also order a lunch from McDonalds to be delivered to your child’s classroom during the lunch hour. Orders for the entire week’s lunches must be placed with McDonalds on Monday or Tuesday before 10:30 a.m. Due to the large volume of lunch requests individual daily orders, and special meal requests are not possible. Order forms are available at HMNS McDonalds or by clicking .
VALUABLES: Please do NOT allow children to bring valuables or favorite toys to camp. The museum is not responsible for lost or stolen articles (particularly Game Boys or Yu-Gi-Oh cards).
SPECIAL NEEDS: We are happy to accommodate children with special needs but we ask that you notify the Camp Manager of your child's special needs PRIOR to your child's first day of camp. Please help us help your child by notifying us of any allergies, accessibility concerns, behavioral, psychological or emotional concerns, or any other special needs. Please call 713.639.4651 to speak with the Camp Manager.
While we hope to offer these camps to as a wide a range of children as possible, it is not possible for us to offer one-on-one care. In the case of severe food allergies, it is not possible for us to monitor what other children bring to camp.
The Museum is NOT responsible for administering medication to children. Consult a pediatrician about altering the child’s dosage so that medication can be administered outside of camp hours.
EXPECTATIONS: Teachers review camper expectations on Monday. The following expectations are posted in the classrooms: 1) Listen and follow instructions 2) Participate in camp activities 3) Respect others 4) Respect property 5) Have fun learning! In case of severe behavior problems, we will call you and ask you to pick up your child. At our discretion, your child may be allowed to return to camp the following day.
CONTACTS: Please call Museum Services at 713.639.4601 and a staff member will deliver your message to the appropriate person.
FEEDBACK: Your comments and suggestions regarding our Summer Camps are essential to improving our programs. Please complete and return the Comment Form that will be distributed on Thursday, or email comments to xplorations@hmns.org
