Frequently Asked Questions:
There are some changes to the Weekday Labs for the 2016-2017 school year and you may have questions! We have prepared these FAQ’s to help you:

  1. What about weekday labs is changing this year?
We have increased the number of Labs on Demand available to you. If you are interested in a particular topic, be sure to stop by the Education Office to speak with the registrar or email
  2. What about weekday labs is remaining the same?
For the 2016-2017 school year, the lab prices and maximum class size remain the same, as are the teachers for Time, Wildlife, TechnoScience, Earth Science and Dissection labs. As always, the purchase of a lab allows your 25 students and their accompanying chaperones into the permanent exhibit halls at no charge.
  3. Are the policies for the Weekday Labs at the George Observatory the same?
No. The George Observatory is an offsite facility, managed by HMNS, located in a state park. Due to this, the policies for the George Observatory are different than those at HMNS. George Observatory class schedule will be emailed to you separately.
  4. How do I register for labs?
For the 2016-2017 school year, please email for the Registration Forms. Please list your preferred labs consecutively by date, not age group. You will email the form(s) to
  5. When are the forms due?
Pre-registration forms for labs will be due, by email only, on April 22, 2016, beginning at 7:00 AM. Registration forms will be processed in the order in which they are received.
  6. Does the registration form guarantee me the classes and times I selected?
Every effort will be made to fulfill your desired schedule. A formal schedule and initial invoice will be sent to you on April 29th and the classes indicated on this schedule are guaranteed to be yours. This will enable you to offer the classes to your group and collect lab fees. Final invoices will be emailed to you on August 15th. Any changes to the schedule need to be made by August 22st.
  7. I am afraid I won’t get the labs I want. Should I sign up for more labs than I need?
To make this as fair as possible, please do not request more classes than you can reasonably fill. We hope, by allowing early access for scheduling, you will be able to recruit students and collect money before payment is due.
  8. When is payment due and what happens if I miss the payment deadline?
Payment in full is due for the Fall semester on August 24th, 2016 and December 5th for Spring semester. On August 26th, all unpaid classes will be released and made available for purchase by others. A 20% charge per class may be applied to any cancellations or changes made after payment is received.
  9. Why is the dissection lab more expensive?
    • The Dissection labs are more expensive because of the specialized equipment and specimens.
  10. Why is there a cancellation policy?
The Museum’s education staff is very limited. Last minute cancellations affect our staff and supply costs. This small fee covers some of our losses.
  11. I heard you had some special events for students and educators this year. How can I learn more?
Sign up for our Educator eBlast! This is the best way to learn about all the upcoming events at HMNS and get in on the special events that pop up from time to time!
