Virtual Individual Lab Registration

HMNS is excited to offer virtual individual registration labs this school-year! Virtual labs will provide around an hour of instruction and educational engagement for your student with many opportunities to practice new skills outside of class time. We are offering a limited selection of dates for our monthly labs, including Dissection, Earth Science, TechnoScience, Time, and Wildlife topics. An HMNS Educator will be on a virtual call with the class to teach students about a specific topic, interact with students, lead them in activities and answer questions. Please note:

  • Virtual Dissection Labs will be dissection demonstrations with the opportunity to engage with the instructor and ask questions.
  • Parental assistance is required for 1st-3rd graders.
  • Latecomers will not receive additional time.
  • Registration must be completed at least 72 hours prior to the start of the virtual lab.

We assume students have basic school supplies such as washable markers, scissors, tape, paper, etc. but will send any paper materials specific to the lab activities to the email connected with your virtual lab purchase. Please note: access to a printer is necessary.

Where do labs take place?

All individual registration labs take place virtually, via the Zoom conferencing platform.

Can I participate with my child?

We require parental assistance for 1st-3rd graders. If you child is above that age range, you are still welcome to attend – there may be instances when your child might need assistance.

Are there age restrictions for the labs?

Yes. Our 1-hour virtual labs are restricted to 1st through 8th graders. 1-hour virtual Dissection Labs are restricted to 5th grade and above.

Can my student’s younger siblings join in on the lab?

For virtual individual registration labs, younger siblings are welcome to join if they fall within the 1st-8th grade age range. For virtual dissections, we require attendees to be 5th grade or above.

What does the lab fee include?

The virtual lab fee includes access to a 1-hour lab through a virtual platform and instruction by a skilled HMNS educator. Please note: access to a printer is necessary.

What level of membership do I need to have in order to receive the member discounts on labs?

You will need a Family-level membership or above.

I am currently not a member, but would like to purchase a membership to receive the membership rate. How do I do that?

In order to receive the membership rate, you will need to purchase a family level membership or above online prior to purchasing your virtual lab. If you
have any questions regarding membership, please email membership@hmns.org.

I am having trouble logging in under my member account in order to register for labs at the member rate. Who can I contact for assistance?

Please email membership@hmns.org for assistance with accessing your member account.

Do you have any discounts for purchasing multiple labs or registering siblings?

No, not at this time. All virtual labs are a flat rate per household/computer log-in. If you have a large group and would like to purchase a private virtual lab at a flat rate, please email educationquestions@hmns.org.

Can I register my child the day of the virtual lab?

No. Virtual Lab registration will close 72 hours prior to the start of the program so museum staff will have a final count of attendees and time to email out the access links for the Zoom meetings and supply lists.

What do I do if I have not been emailed the supply list and Zoom link at least 48 hours prior to the start of my virtual lab?

Please email educationquestions@hmns.org, and we will be happy to assist you as soon as possible!

My student is running late to the virtual lab. Can he/she have additional time with the instructor to make up for lost time?

Unfortunately, we cannot offer additional time with the instructor after the virtual lab ends.

Cancellations & Refunds

Due to limited staff time and supplies, each virtual lab sale will be considered final. Registrations are not transferrable from household to household. Please note: The Museum reserves the right to cancel virtual labs that do not meet minimum enrollment. If a virtual lab is canceled by the Museum, patrons will be contacted no later than three business days prior to the scheduled virtual lab and have the opportunity to switch their enrollment to another scheduled virtual lab or receive a full refund.
