Explore the wide variety of merit badges and adventure badges available during weeklong summer scout classes at HMNS.


Girl Scouts

Girl Scout summer classes are for girls in grades 2 and up and provide an interactive and fun look into scientific fields. One class is specifically written for Brownies (2nd and 3rd grade), one is for Juniors (4th and 5th grade), two arefor Cadettes (6th through 8th grade) and one is for Seniors (9th and 10th grade). Note: Badges completed indicated in parenthesis.

  • Brownie Engineers
    June 18–22, July 9–13, and July 30–August 3
    (Think like an Engineer Journey, Race Car Challenge, Leap Bot Design Challenge and Fling Flyer Challenge)
    Brownies will explore what engineers do, while designing a race car, leap bot and a fling flyer. Girls will earn there Think like an Engineer journey and do their Take Action Project at the museum
  • Cadette Career Carousel
    July 9–13
    (Comic book artist, First Aid, New Cuisines Badge, Screenwriter, and Special Agent)
    Cadettes will discover the world of comics from newspapers to graphic novels, culinary dishes from around the world, the twists and plots of a screenwriter. Explore the world of Forensic Science and Criminal Psychology, while becoming certified in Red Cross First Aid and CPR.
  • Cadette Journeys
    June 18–22 and July 30–August 3
    (Cadettes MEdia and Amaze Journeys)
    Cadette girls will explore the many roles available for women and girls. You’ll imagine, create, and try-out new roles for yourselves. Media is all the tools used to communicate with many people at once.
  • Designing Daisies
    June 18–22 and July 30–August 3
    (Think like an Engineer Journey, Model Car Design Challenge, Roller Coaster Design Challenge and Board Game Design Challenge)
    Daisies will design a model car, roller coaster and a board game. Earn their Think like an engineer journey and do their complete their Take Action project, while at the museum.
  • Junior Journeys
    June 18–22 and July 30–August 3
    (Junior Agent of Change and Get Moving Journeys)
    Junior girls will lead these journeys in exploring energy usage and energy savings. Discover your own talents and learn about the women who have shaped the world you live in.
  • Program Your World
    July 9–13
    (Think like a Programmer Journey, Programming Robots badge, Designing Robots badge and Showcasing Robots badge)
    Juniors will learn how to programmers solve problems, complete a Take Action Project at the museum and earn their Robotics badges.
  • Senior Journeys
    July 9–13
    (Sow What? And GIRLtopia Journeys)
    Senior girls will explore the food network, where food comes from, and how it arrives from farm to table, along with the footprint that our food leaves on planet Earth. Develop your vision of an ideal world, and acquire the skills to create that vision.
