Now Open!

With exhibitions ranging from state-of-the-art technology to the wonders of outer space, the new Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land presents compelling exhibitions and fascinating learning experiences.

Click Play on the video below for a tour!

Science on a Sphere

Science on a Sphere

Upon entrance, admire this giant animated globe – and watch as complex environmental processes unfold above you in vivid detail. Science on a Sphere uses high-speed computers, projectors and advanced imaging techniques to create the illusion of a planet, Sun, moon or any other celestial body rotating in space. Get an even better view from the second floor!

Stan the T. rex

Dinosaurs!

Stan the T. rex welcomes you to HMNS at Sugar Land. Get an up-close look at one of the world’s best-known dinosaurs – then head over to the Dig Pit to experience the thrill of paleontology first-hand (separate ticket required). Cast fossils await discovery there, and budding scientists will be delighted to dig for dinosaurs under the watchful gaze of a prehistoric archelon, the largest sea turtle ever discovered!

Horned Frog

Hall of Life Science

Learn about the amazing variety of life on Earth. Hop on over to our collection of living frogs, featuring everything from the aptly named Giant African Bullfrog, and exotic Amazon Milk Frogs, to an array including Giant Monkey Frogs, Surinam Toads and many more. Scrutinize an amazing variety of skulls of different animal species from around the globe – from a killer whale and grizzly bear to the humble duckbill platypus, among many others – and wander through the Fossil Forest to discover the Zuhl Collection of Petrified Wood, featuring stunningly preserved slices of ancient trees that tell the dramatic tale of their history and environment.

Amethyst Geode

Hall of Earth Science

Explore an unparalleled array of amazing geological wonders. Massive amethyst and citrine geodes taller than a person, jammed with gleaming purple and golden crystals, are displayed among an array of huge mineral specimens, intricately crystallized slices of petrified wood, and an incredible collection of fossils. Explore some of Mother Nature’s most surprising wonders as you step into a cave illuminated by the rainbow-colored glow from fluorescent minerals in every size and color.

Amazing images from the Hubble Telescope will be on display in the Hall of Space Science.

Hall of Space Science

Observe the wonders of the night sky, through some of the most spectacular images yet produced by the Hubble Telescope – and get up close to meteorites that have crashed to Earth. Then, climb into the Planetarium for a virtual ride straight into outer space! Journey through the solar system in search of Ice Worlds, discover what happens when a meteorite collides with our world in Impact Earth and explore the Dawn of the Space Age; all playing daily.

Daytime Classes

Delve into science and nature in our interactive science labs featuring Museum specimens, artifacts and laboratory equipment. Students examine ancient objects, investigate technology, meet live animals and conduct scientific experiments in five different, themed labs. Each lab lasts one hour.
