Permanent Exhibits
The Houston Museum of Natural Science offers a rich and diverse array of things to see, hear and touch in our many permanent exhibits.
Come meet the past rulers of our planet in the Paleontology Hall...or explore the ways oil and natural gas are formed and how energy is used in our interactive Wiess Energy Hall...or create a chemical reaction in the Welch Chemistry Hall while learning about chemical processes and their importance in our everyday world.
Be dazzled by some of the rarest and most beautiful crystallized minerals in the Cullen Hall of Gems & Minerals...or fascinated by hundreds of the most spectacular shells in the Strake Hall of Malacology.
Get friendlier with some of our creatures native to Texas (don't worry, they can't bite!)...or discover the complex ecosystem of the Serengeti Plain while on an African safari...you can also meet our resident mummy, Ankh-hap, and learn all about the culture of Ancient Egypt. Jump a few thousand years and explore remarkable diversity and extraordinary accomplishments of the indigenous peoples of the Americas in the John P. McGovern Hall of the Americas.
If you'd like to go out of this world, the Isaac Arnold Hall of Space Science can prepare you for "lift-off". With actual NASA space suits, a moon rock and a Mercury spacecraft, you will definitely be ready to one day live and work in space. Then come back down to earth and see the world spin through the Foucault Pendulum!
Whatever may strike your fancy, HMNS offers something for everyone!
Admission to the Permanent Exhibit Halls is free on Tuesdays after 2 p.m.
