Frogs! introduces visitors to the amazing and sonorous world of anurans - the frogs. These fascinating amphibians are among the most visually stunning, vocally pleasing and adaptively remarkable life forms on earth. The exhibit includes over 150 live frogs! Learn about their rich and diverse world, explore their evolution, biological importance to ecosystems and the threats they face in changing environments.
The centerpiece of this exhibit includes dart poison frogs. Found mostly in the tropical areas of Central and South America, dart poison frogs are so named because the native South Americans make poison darts by rubbing the tip of the dart in the poison mucus of the frog's skin.
Frogs! A Chorus of Colors was created by Clyde Peeling's Reptiland, Allenwood, Pennsylvania and locally underwritten by The Hamill Foundation and the Houston Museum of Natural Science Volunteer Guild.
Admission to Frogs! A Chorus of Colors includes FREE admission to the Cockrell Butterfly Center for Members, Adults, Children, Seniors, College Students and Groups of 20 or more. This offer does not apply to school field trips because schools pay the lowest admission rate. Please Note: The Cockrell Butterfly Center will open at 1:30 pm on Saturday, February 24.
