Face the “Supreme Conqueror” in Genghis Khan, the largest-ever presentation of 13th century treasures, presented for the first time, many which may have been used during the Khan’s empire.

The story line begins with an account of the life and influence of Genghis Khan, including a timeline, a short film and a replica of Khan seated on his throne. Discover the daily life of a nomad on the grasslands. View a Shaman’s robe and other objects related to shamanism; watch a short video showing the construction of a yurt, a traditional Mongolian dwelling; and glimpse everyday items used by Mongolian nomads.

Then, begin Building The Army. Experience warriors on galloping horses; see magnificent weaponry, armor and additional objects depicting the horse culture of Mongolia. Then, journey on The Western Invasion with various cases of relics from Khan’s empire. Marvel at the stature of a Mongolian warrior on horseback.

Encounter full-scale replicas of a traction trebuchet and a large siege crossbow. A video screen on the wall shows armies attacking walled cities. Next, visitors explore the death of Genghis Khan. An image of the brilliant warrior is projected on a wall describing his death. In addition, the room spotlights the revolutionary laws of the Great Khan and explores the history of his reign.

After learning of his death, explore the walled city and archaeology of Kharakorum. Museum visitors are introduced to new discoveries from ongoing, modern-day excavations at this 13th-century world capital in the Mongolian desert. Observe a mysterious mummified nomadic figure, only recently uncovered from a Mongolian cave, whose remains indicate that he was massacred. The mummy may be up to 1,000 years old, dating to the time of Genghis Khan, or just before.

Meet the real Genghis Khan through approximately 200 artifacts, including Mongolian costumes, headdresses and instruments, imperial gold, metal ornaments and more from the National Museum of Mongolian History and the State Hermitage Museum.
