David Temple with Volunteers
Volunteers provide vital support throughout the Museum, giving tours to school children and other groups, demonstrations in exhibit halls, presenting outreach programs and assisting staff behind-the-scenes.
Each year, these dedicated individuals give a combined total of more than 34,000 hours of their time to HMNS. Their contributions are essential to the success of virtually all Museum activities.
All kinds of people volunteer at HMNS, from teenagers to seniors and from science novices to science professionals. Volunteering is an opportunity to teach, to learn, to meet people, and to experience a stimulating environment. Some of our volunteers contribute just a few hours a month, while others prefer to work several hours each week.
The mascot of the HMNS volunteers is the Diplodocus dinosaur, which also lends its name to our volunteer newsletter, The Dashing Diplodocus.
