Director of Donor Engagement

Department: Development/Membership
Reports to: VP, Development and Membership
Status: Full time/Salaried

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • • Coordinate Museum programs that secure gifts from President’s Circle, and any other donor/affinity group initiated.
    • Coordinate Museum fundraising events to include Excellence in Science Luncheon, A Butterfly Flutter, and Annual Gala.
    • For donor groups:
              o With appropriate Chairman, plan and implement programming for each group.
              o Oversee solicitations and renewals
              o Orchestrate special events and programs with the help of Development Associate
              o Maintain records
              o Write letters and prepare collateral material with graphic input
              o Prepare reports for donor group chairmen as necessary.
    • For fundraising events:
              o Work to identify chairmen for all events
              o Manage and create budget for all events
              o Work with chairmen on all aspects of production for events – invitation lists/seating/income reports/décor/solicitation materials
              o Work with graphic designer to produce materials
    • Work as a member of the Development team to support all cultivation and stewardship events.
    • Work with various Board and Committee members to further department goals.

Qualifications:

• College degree with at least 5-7 years management experience with proven track record cultivating, soliciting and securing gifts.
• Familiarity with the Houston philanthropic community.
• Superior interpersonal skills in interacting with donors, prospects, volunteers and staff.
• High level of self motivation and ability to have a significant impact in a dynamic fundraising program.
• Exceptional communications, both oral and written.
• Ability to attend evening and weekend donor functions.

Scout Program Manager 

Classification: Full-Time Salaried, 40+ hours per week
Reports To: Director of Youth Education Programs  


To facilitate, enrich and ensure continued growth of the current scouting programs at HMNS. This position is accountable for managing and enabling delivery of the Summer and Saturday scouting programs at HMNS as well as coordinating intra and inter-departmentally to cross promote and facilitate Museum programming overall. This is a performance based positon requiring quarterly review meetings. Positive performance will consist of meeting or exceeding revenue and attendance goals, which should be trackable and consistently growing.

Responsibilities include:

Planning:

• Develop, plan, and coordinate classes and events for scouts of all ages and levels based on the needs and interests of the scouts, the available resources, and program goals.
• Set goals (seasonal, yearly and three year) that indicate a systematic effort to increase attendance and revenue in scout programming and then make a concerted effort to achieve those goals.
• Provide input to the development of a yearly budget and work within the assigned budget.

Facilitation:

• Respond to internal and external inquiries in timely manner, preferably within 48 hours.
• Recruiting, training and supervising seasonal staff during or in anticipation of peak program delivery times, including supervising payroll for said staff.
• Analyze and monitor enrollment reports and take appropriate action where deficits are perceived.
• Create and analyze surveys for scouting program participants to gather information for future marketing and development efforts.
• Ensure the appropriate materials, supplies, and spaces are prepared well in advance for program events.
• Coordinate with the departmental team to provide training to scouting staff to comply with departmental and state standards.
• Work within the department to cross promote scout programming to a wider audience. Model and promote collaboration with all departments to insure quality customer service.
• Regularly and effectively communicate with supervisor(s) with regards to information detailing progress towards goals

Marketing and Community Relations:

• Cultivate and maintaining positive relationships between the scouting districts/councils, HMNS members, and the general community to increase public awareness and increase attendance at HMNS scouting programs. Provide positive customer service to scouts, adult volunteers, parents and staff.
• Collaborate with community resources and educational institutions to provide troops/packs/groups the opportunity to participate in scout activities at HMNS as well as to ensure the best use of resources and to maintain positive public relations.
• Increase the visibility and strengthen the image of HMNS Scouting by establishing relationships with community leaders and organizations and by encouraging attendance at HMNS programming.
• Develop and maintain contacts in the scouting community, both locally and statewide.
• Actively schedule and participate in meetings/roundtables/etc. to promote HMNS programming and scouting in general.

Other duties as assigned including, but not limited to, the facilitation of general educational programming such as Outreach delivery, teaching labs, and participating in festivals.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; related experience preferred.
• A flexible schedule including the ability to work weekends and evenings for classes, educational conferences, previews, science nights, and/or marketing events
• Extensive knowledge of youth programming and classroom management.
• Possess leadership skills that inspire; prioritizes, provides direction, and innovates, all in an effort to achieve the organization's aspirations.
• Skill in solving problems and managing conflict to insure quality service to all constituents and ensure scouts’ safety.
• Strong planning, decision making, organizational, and financial skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a timely and productive manner.
• Ability to be adaptive and exhibit a high degree of flexibility.
• Excellent writing and communication skills.
• Demonstrate desire to improve and develop professionally.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ATMS.
• Ability to travel as job requires.
• Possess a valid driver’s license

Physical Requirements:

• Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching and moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds).
• Physical condition that allows for extended work periods in an outdoor setting, extensive walking.
• Must be able to sit at a work station and/or a computer screen for up to 2 hours at a time.
• Occasional exposure to seasonal weather conditions.

Other Preferred Skills:

• Knowledge of or experience with Boy Scout and Girl Scouts
• Trained in First-aid/CPR/AED/Epi-pen
• First-hand experience in educational programming at the Museum
• Previous participation as a HMNS volunteer
• Coursework in education, science and/or history

Eligibility Restrictions:

• This position is full-time. Those interested in part-time positions will not be considered.

Qualifications:
