In 2015, Dr. Robert Ballard’s Exploration Vessel Nautilus and its Corps of Exploration have the most ambitious expedition season yet. For over six weeks, the expedition will be dedicated to exploration and mapping of the Galapagos Rift and the site of the first hydrothermal vent discovery in 1977. The six-month-long 2015 season marks the transition of the vessel to the west coast of the United States and the Pacific Ocean, concluding over two years of research in the Gulf and Caribbean regions.
In 2013, we followed the E/V Nautilus through the Gulf of Mexico and this summer we will join the crew LIVE at the Galapagos Islands. Again this summer, you can join the adventure live in the Burke Baker Planetarium and talk with the Nautilus crew. The adventure returns to HMNS with better video, better audio and more time with the crew. Summer research assistants Madeleine Thompson and Victoria Hunt will help with questions for the Nautilus during our daily live briefings in the Planetarium.
