Astronomy Day 2008

Astronomy Day

Saturday, October 18, 3 - 10 p.m.
FREE with park admission!

Make plans to attend Astronomy Day 2008 at the Houston Museum of Natural Science’s George Observatory in Brazos Bend State Park.

This annual free event is open to the public and includes activities for all ages.  Festivities begin in the afternoon, but this event really comes to life after dark with star clusters, planets and entire galaxies.

Astronomy Day at the George Observatory is a hands-on way to learn all about space and astronomy, from simulated missions to the Moon and Mars in the Challenger Center to look into deep space through extremely large telescopes.  You will have the opportunity to view the night skies through dozens of telescopes, including professional research telescopes and ones specially designed for viewing sun spots in the daytime.

Astronomy Day is a perfect way to get started in astronomy by meeting the Local astronomy clubs and learning how to use and purchase telescopes.  Explore the numerous indoor displays and activities for children.  Astronomy presentations will be made throughout the afternoon.  This year’s featured speaker is Stephen James O'Meara of Astronomy Magazine.

This family event is sponsored by a dozen local astronomy clubs and NASA organizations.  It is free to the public and HMNS members. There is a $4 per person charge to enter Brazos Bend State Park, children 12 and under are admitted free.  For more information, visit www.astronomyday.org.
