George Observatory

Groups can enjoy an exclusive Overnight at the George Observatory, a satellite facility of the Houston Museum of Natural Science. After an amazing evening of stargazing with the 36” Gueymard Research telescope (weather permitting), participants take an exciting night hike around Creekfield Lake in beautiful Brazos Bend State Park to observe wildlife in their nocturnal habitats. (Optional astronomy activities are available for cloudy nights.) Customize your Overnight by choosing from different activity topics, optional presentations and more to create your own unforgettable Overnight adventure!

Who can participate in an Overnight?
Children ages 6-12 and adult chaperones. This is a great opportunity for a special class field trip or a scout group outing.

When do Overnights take place?
Overnights are available Sunday – Friday nights from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. the following day. Dates are subject to availability and generally book about 6 months to a year in advance. For information on availability of a specific date, please email georgeovernights@hmns.org.

What is the cost of a basic Overnight?
Small Groups
(Up to 30 people)

Large Groups
(Up to 50 people)

What’s included in the basic Overnight package?
  • Astronomy activities
  • Telescope viewing (weather permitting)
  • Late night snack and continental breakfast
  • Night hike around handicapped accessible Creekfield Lake
What optional upgrades are available for an Overnight?
Optional upgrades include:
  • Time for all upgrades from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. the following day
  • Upgrades are subject to availability—ask about options to custom design your experience
  • Challenger Learning Center simulated spaceflight – Cost: $280
  • Box dinner upgrade available for first night—ask about options available
