Directions to the George Observatory
The George Observatory is located in Brazos Bend State Park, approximately a one-hour drive from downtown Houston.

Take Hwy. 59 south to the Crabb River Road exit. Go left under the freeway and stay on Crabb River Road over the railroad tracks. The road changes names to FM 762 once you go over the tracks. Stay on FM 762 for 12 miles until you get to the entrance of Brazos Bend State Park. NOTE: Due to construction on US 59, the brown state park information signs have been removed.
Or, take Highway 288 south, take a right on FM 1462, go about 13 miles and turn right on FM 762. The park entrance is 1.5 miles on the right. This route is marked with brown state information signs to guide you.
Park Entrance Fee
- $5 per person (ages 13 - 64); $3 Seniors (ages 65+); free for ages 12 and under.
- Park entry fee applies to all programs.
Saturdays at the George
- Saturday evenings, 3-10 p.m. Exhibit area and gift shop open at 3 pm.
- Tickets go on sale at 5 p.m. on a first come first served basis.
- Viewing through the telescopes starts at dusk.
- Research telescope viewing: HMNS members enjoy free member nights at the Observatory quarterly; check Member Newsletter for dates and more details; for non-members prices are $3 for the 36" telescope, $2 for the 14" and 18" telescope.
- No reservations in advance for Saturday evening viewing.
- Tickets go on sale at 5 p.m.

Group Reservations
Daytime Groups
Private groups can schedule tours, Challenger missions and astronomy classes.

Friday Night Groups
Friday nights, 7:30 – 10 p.m.
$10 per person (includes park entry fee)
Group Minimum: 30 people, Group Maximum: 100 people
Note: More than one group may be booked per night with total limited to 100 people
