Scouts looking to earn some valuable field experience and practice some hands-on science should try one of the Scouts@HMNS field classes. Open to all Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts 12 years and older, this is a great opportunity to work with an HMNS expert in the field. Field classes will begin at 8 a.m. and will last about four hours. Note: field classes are weather-permitting.

Field Classes

  • Archaeology – Head into the field to search for actual archaeological artifacts under the direction of Museum archaeologists at the George Ranch.
  • Geology – Take a journey to the fossil beds at Whiskey Bridge to look for a variety of ancient specimens with Museum geologists and paleontologists. Access to this site is subject to the level of the Brazos River; it may be rescheduled if there are water level concerns.
