Position: Ramses Exhibition Attendant
Employment Status: Part Time, Hourly

Pay Rate: $10.75 per hour

Job Summary:

To meet the high expectations associated with the exhibition and to serve the high volume of ticket holders, it is imperative that service of the highest standard is administered daily through each employee associated with the exhibition and that every employee be able to competently fulfill each role in the exhibition.

The Ramses Exhibition Attendant’s role is to effectively communicate information about the exhibition to visitors and provide service in a variety of roles pertaining to ticketing, visitor flow, and exhibition and shop experience, including merchandise, photo concessions, audio tours, and VR experience in the exhibition gift shop and accompanying areas. This position is also responsible for maintaining clean workspaces and assisting with warehouse operations, equipment troubleshooting, and inventory tracking for all retail areas.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

In addition to the responsibilities outlined below, the Ramses Exhibition Attendant will be expected to follow all policies and procedures as noted in the Employee Handbook and subsequent memorandums.

Customer Interface

  • Must have proven experience in customer service, office procedures, and/or retail, and be able to demonstrate examples of success or achievement within that experience.
  • Maintain a professional image and pleasant demeanor at all times
  • Be knowledgeable about the exhibitions at Houston Museum of Natural Science, as well as relevant public information.

Ticket Scanning/Queue Operations

  • Receive and validate event admission tickets with ticket scanner
  • Facilitate the entrance of each guest to the exhibition by efficiently scanning their entrance ticket and troubleshooting any problems with the ticket
  • Be knowledgeable about various exhibition ticket types, and packages, the scanning equipment and possible explanations for a failed scan.
  • Keep the scanning equipment safe, clean and charged at the end of every day.
  • Work with fellow team members to keep queue moving in a timely manner

Exhibition Entry

  • Monitor visitor entry into the exhibition to ensure that visitor flow is appropriate and timely
  • Monitor queue crowd to ensure that queue movement is appropriate and timely
  • Some public speaking in the form of a 2-minute introductory theater speech to groups up to 60 people
  • Minimal manipulation of digital interface to start/stop introductory theater presentation

Gallery Attendant

  • Be available for visitor questions pertaining to the exhibition
  • Be knowledgeable about the exhibition storyline and frequently-asked questions particular to the gallery
  • Capably execute all roles relating to execution of the VR experience, photo op and audio guide.
  • Troubleshoot visitor issues with the audio tour, VR experience and photo op.

Customer Interface

  • Maintain a professional image and pleasant demeanor at all times
  • Welcome each visitor and serve them as they enter your workspace
  • Assist visitors with merchandise, photo, audio tour, and VR experience questions and sales
  • Be knowledgeable about the exhibition and the Houston Museum of Natural Science, as well as relevant public information

Shop Register Operations

  • Facilitate sales for the retail store, photo concession, audio tour, and VR experience
  • Balance the till and starting bank at shift’s end

Shop Inventory Management

  • Assist with the inventory of merchandise and general store stocking duties
  • Transport merchandise between storage location and store
  • Assist with the rotation of audio tour devices between the distribution and collection positions as needed
  • Transport audio tour equipment via aluminum carts between these areas as needed
  • Monitor store, photo, and audio tour inventory levels when required and inform management when levels are unsatisfactory

VR Operations

  • Receive and validate event admission tickets with ticket scanner
  • Manage the safe and timely loading and unloading of visitors into VR vehicles, as available
  • Respond to visitor inquiries and troubleshoot any technical issues
  • Sanitize VR vehicles between groups
  • Manage the stand by and waiting guest on the queue lines

Photo Operations

  • Drive on-site sales of accompanying photo experience through positive and proactive queue interactions
  • Photograph visitors in front of backdrop in a safe, timely, and courteous manner
  • Oversee the transfer of photo information to merchandise store
  • Respond to visitor inquiries and troubleshoot any technical issues with photo equipment

Audio Tour Operations

  • Drive on-site sales of accompanying audio tour experience, facilitate transactions through on-site POS
  • Distribute and collect audio tour equipment to visitors in a courteous and timely manner, providing efficient and helpful user instructions
  • Respond to visitor inquiries and troubleshoot any technical issues with audio tour devices
  • Responsible for reconciling till with POS sales totals
  • Assist with the rotation of audio tour devices between distribution and collection points
  • Monitor inventory levels when required and informing management when levels are unsatisfactory
  • Sanitize audio tour devices between uses

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Ramses Exhibition Attendants are expected to have relevant service experience, as well as the ability to demonstrate a positive and team-oriented attitude. Ramses Exhibition Attendants must be comfortable serving visitors of all backgrounds and ages, and must be willing to be flexible with their daily post assignments. This position requires long standing hours.

Foreign language skills are desired, but not required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must consider the customer a top priority in the organization, and be sensitive to their needs and handle their feedback appropriately.
  • Must demonstrate good judgment in handling customer questions and concerns through the proper resources
  • Must acknowledge the importance of security of money and the systems in place to monitor that security; as well as demand appreciation and respect for confidential information resulting from cash security systems.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to prioritize tasks and time, have attention to detail, and multi-task in a busy environment.
  • Must have excellent attendance (must maintain 3 attendance points or less).
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, some evenings, and holidays.
  • Ability to operate a desktop computer, mobile computer, scanner or other technical equipment
  • Should have good interpersonal and communication skills in order to speak to visitors and colleagues
  • Able to adjust to changing workflow from slow to a fast pace working environment, alert and able to respond quickly in an emergency
  • Ability to be in both stationary and circulating positions throughout shift for long periods of times
  • Should have an interest in science
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Relevant volunteer or work experience is preferred
  • Must comply with the museum’s COVID-19 safety and vaccination/testing protocols.
  • Must be at least 14 years old to apply
