HMNS Farmers Market

Sunday, May 25, 2025 | 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The Braeswood Farmers Market will be setting up shop on the Museum Sundial Plaza on May 25 from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Free to attend and get 20% off any membership level when you purchase from the HMNS plant sale table or one of the vendors.

Can’t make this one? Don’t worry, there are more Farmers Markets coming up!

Join HMNS astronomers for a guided tour of the night sky highlights and seasonal celebrations.

Sundial Celebrations Upcoming Dates:

HMNS Sensory Friendly Events

Generously supported by the Joan and Stanford Alexander Family Fund

Three times a year, HMNS offers Sensory Friendly events where exhibits and venues are modified for those with sensory sensitivities. Exhibits and venues are modified to create a sensory neutral environment. The Burke Baker Planetarium and Wortham Giant Screen Theatre also offer modified 2D shows with house lights on and the volume reduced. Sensory Backpacks, which include ear defenders, sunglasses, and fidgets, are available to check out with an ID at the Museum Services Desk, and Touch Carts with tactile specimens to explore will be available throughout the museum’s permanent exhibit halls. Mixers & Elixirs

On the second Saturday of each month at our main location in Hermann Park, HMNS will open one hour early for members only! See the museum’s permanent exhibitions—always free for members—before the crowds.

Second Saturday: Mother’s Day

Make your mom’s heart flutter by creating a beautiful butterfly using a clothespin at this Second Saturday event in Glassell Hall!

While you’re there, stop by and chat with our docents, who will have some fascinating bugs on display. Learn all about how bug moms care for their little critters and discover the amazing world of insect parenting!

Second Saturday: T. rex
June 14, 2025 | 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

June is all about T. rex Week—and what better way to end it with a bang than at our Member Second Saturday? Join us for a dino-mite morning as you explore the Morian Hall of Paleontology before the crowds roll in! Chat with our knowledgeable volunteers and ask all your burning dinosaur questions—no fossil fact is too big or small.

Need a break from roaming with the giants? Stop by our craft station and create your very own dinosaur… out of a paper plate!

Highlighting High Flyers

Join us for a fun-filled evening as the Houston Museum of Natural Science and the Houston Arboretum come together to celebrate our feathered friends, native plants, and the amazing local wildlife surrounding us!

The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center is a 155-acre nonprofit nature sanctuary located just miles from downtown Houston. Our dual mission is to provide nature education to people of all ages and to protect and enhance the Arboretum as a haven for native plants and wildlife. Come and have some fun with us as we explore gardening that benefits hummingbirds and work on a delightful hummingbird craft to take home!

Don't miss this special event open to HMNS and Houston Arboretum members.

Member Night: The Good Dinosaur Film (2015)

Sure, movies may not always get the science exactly right—but who says imagination can’t take us on a prehistoric journey? Escape the summer sizzle and cool off in the Wortham Giant Screen Theatre as we dive into the dino-tastic world of The Good Dinosaur (2015)!

Before the lights dim, stroll over to our Periodic Table Grab-and-Go to purchase some scientifically delicious snacks.

Then sit back, relax, and join Arlo and Spot on a heartwarming, wild adventure to find their way home—and maybe discover a little courage along the way.

*Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the movie will start at 7:00 p.m.
*Periodic Table will be open until 8:00 p.m. for purchases
