Livestream the Grand Egyptian Museum Opening Ceremony
Location: Burke Baker Planetarium
FREE admission (free ticket from Box Office required for entry).
Join us this Saturday, November 1, as we livestream the Grand Egyptian Museum Opening Ceremony inside the Burke Baker Planetarium. Starting at 12:00 pm, this event is FREE to the public. This event marks the landmark inauguration of the world’s largest archaeological museum complex, featuring over 100,000 artifacts, including the complete Tutankhamun collection displayed together for the first time. The opening will be attended by kings, queens, and presidents from around the world, underscoring its global significance.
This event is in collaboration with the Egyptian Embassy and the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau in Washington DC.
A Weekend of STEM Discovery with TikTok
Location: Museum Sundial Plaza
We’re celebrating National STEM Day with TikTok! Step into TikTok’s STEM Feed in real life and experience immersive, hands-on activities curated by our education experts on our outdoor Sundial Plaza and select indoor halls of the museum. From fossil preparation and butterfly ecology to solar science and mobile lab demos in chemistry and physics, this FREE, two-day outdoor event invites visitors to explore, learn, and discover the wonders of STEM.
HMNS Farmers Market
The Braeswood Farmers Market will be setting up shop on the Museum Sundial Plaza on Sunday, November 16th from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm.
Free to attend and get 20% off any membership level when you purchase from any one of the vendors.

HMNS Sensory Friendly Events
Three times a year, HMNS offers Sensory Friendly events where exhibits and venues are modified for those with sensory sensitivities. Exhibits and venues are modified to create a sensory neutral environment. The Burke Baker Planetarium and Wortham Giant Screen Theatre also offer modified 2D shows with house lights on and the volume reduced. Sensory Backpacks, which include ear defenders, sunglasses, and fidgets, are available to check out with an ID at the Museum Services Desk, and Touch Carts with tactile specimens to explore will be available throughout the museum’s permanent exhibit halls. Wander off for a free flick in the Giant Screen Theatre or take a cosmic journey in the Burke Baker Planetarium—because this isn’t just a party, it’s an experience.

Second Saturday: Farish Hall of Texas Wildlife
Saturday, October 11 | 8:00 am – 2:00 pm
This Second Saturday, we’re celebrating Texas Wildlife with knowledgeable docents in the exhibit ready to answer your questions about our state’s diverse habitats, from Gulf Coast beaches to Hill Country caves. Be sure to stop by the craft station in Grand Hall to create your very own paper plate fox!

Second Saturday: Dia de Muerto (Day of the Dead)
Saturday, November 8 | 8:00 am – 10:00 am
Day of the Dead may have come and gone, but we’re extending the celebration for one more weekend this November! Stop by our craft tables in Grand Hall to make your own paper Day of the Dead mask, and visit the John P. McGovern Hall of the Americas to chat with our knowledgeable docents about how this tradition connects to Mayan culture.

Member Night: Astronomy Night
Join us for an exclusive Member Night inside the Burke Baker Planetarium and experience an evening full of cosmic wonders! Be among the first to enjoy a secret, never-before-seen show, then set off on a live journey through the stars with our Starry Night Express. Shows will be running throughout the evening, so you’re welcome to come and go as you please.
Still craving more space? Step outside onto the Sundial and join our Astronomy team as they peer through our telescopes to admire the distant stars and planets above. Plus, don't forget to stop by the Grand Hall for planet-themed snacks and a fun, hands-on craft inspired by the cosmos.
