Sensory Backpacks, which include ear defenders, sunglasses, and fidgets, are available to check out with an ID at the Museum Services Desk, and Touch Carts with tactile specimens to explore will be available throughout the museum’s permanent exhibit halls. Second Saturdays
Second Saturday: Museum Selfie Day
Saturday, January 10 | 8:00 am – 10:00 am
Join us for our first Second Saturday of the year! Start the year with creativity by making a cellphone craft, then use your imagination to “snap” memories all around the museum.
Ever wondered how people captured memories before cameras existed? Travel back in time to Ancient Egypt in our Hall of Ancient Egypt on the third floor, where a friendly docent will be there to answer your questions and share fascinating stories.

Mind Over Matter - Reverse Happy Hour
Start your year off right with a workout in one of Houston's most unique settings. Move through the museum with your group as instructors guide you from one space to the next. Stretch beneath the glowing marine life in Glassell Hall, strengthen your core beside towering dinosaurs in the Morian Hall of Paleontology, and then head to the Wiess Energy Hall to exercise your mind by competing in a focus challenge designed to sharpen reaction time and cognitive performance.
After the workout, begin your cooldown with music, a complimentary glass of champagne, and a stroll through the Morian Hall of Paleontology.
A Few Notes:
- Please bring your own workout mat, water bottle, and towel, as these items will not be provided.
- All participants must sign a consent form prior to beginning the class.
- We will be moving through the museum using stairs. If you need accommodations or assistance, please let the team know in advance.
- Parking is free for this event
- Event is 21+
