Sensory Backpacks, which include ear defenders, sunglasses, and fidgets, are available to check out with an ID at the Museum Services Desk, and Touch Carts with tactile specimens to explore will be available throughout the museum’s permanent exhibit halls. Second Saturday: World Lion Day
Saturday, August 9 | 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Roar into the weekend with us as we celebrate World Lion Day! Create your paper plate lion face in our kid-friendly craft zone, then head over to the African Wildlife Hall to meet our knowledgeable volunteers. Ask them all your wildest questions—like, is a lion’s roar faster than the speed of sound?
Event is subject to change at any time due to unforeseen circumstances
Second Saturday: Seashells on the Seashelf
Saturday, September 13 | 8:00 am – 2:00 pm (Extended for September Member Appreciation)
We love dinosaurs, but let’s not forget the extraordinary aquatic life we have here at HMNS!
Stop by Glassell Hall to make a fun jellyfish craft under the glow of our faux aquatic world. Then, head over to the Malacology Hall, where our friendly docents are ready to share fascinating facts about our extensive seashell collection on the shelf… or should we say, seashelf!
Plus, don’t miss the face painting station from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, where guests of all ages can transform into sea creatures, mermaids, or whatever their imagination desires!
The first 100 members to stop by the membership table will receive a small shark fan—perfect for cooling off after exploring!
Due to time constraints and high demand, face painting is not guaranteed. We will have a hard stop at 1:00 pm, with the line closing at 12:50 pm.
