Bridgerton Tea Soiree

Whispers of clandestine tea habits have reached my ever-attentive ears. I extend to you an invitation to a tea soiree where all members of the Hous-‘Ton’ can learn the correct way to take part in this delicious afternoon delight. Venture into the hallowed halls of the museum, where a spread of exquisite tea, cakes and charm awaits. Attire of the most enchanting nature is strongly encouraged, for this is no ordinary gathering! Will you accept this decidedly forward invitation to tea?

Celebrate the upcoming airing of Bridgerton season three with us by learning the rules of tea etiquette from Melodie Wade of Melodie Wade School of Etiquette. Not a fan of Bridgerton? Don’t fret as you are welcome to enjoy our selection of teas, treats and etiquette lesson as well.

Step into the Cullen Hall of Gems and Minerals and be greeted by our knowledgeable docents, who will be leading a captivating lapidary demonstration. Indulge your creative side at one of our craft tables and grow a borax crystal pipe cleaner to take home with you. It’s an evening of unique experiences and dazzling discoveries!

*Only Cullen Hall of Gems and Minerals will be available at this event, all other exhibits will be closed to the public.

Member Night with James Washington III

June 13, 2024 | 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Embark on an entertaining journey inside the Burke Baker Planetarium as the one and only Paleontologist James Edward Washington III provides his unique commentary on clips featuring dinosaurs from popular movies and shows. Will he agree with the accuracy of these cinematic favorites?

But wait, there’s more! Afterward, venture into the Morian Hall of Paleontology, where you can sit among dinosaurs to create your own paper-chomping T. rex or explore the wonders of prehistoric beasts. Have any pending paleontology queries? Come prepared, as James just might be persuaded to answer them all. It’s an evening filled with entertainment and discovery!

*Only Burke Baker Planetarium and Morian Hall of Paleontology will be available at this event, all other exhibits will be closed to the public.

Yoga Night

Experience serenity amidst the oceanic wonders of Glassell Hall. Roll out your yoga mat and let the soothing guidance of our instructor, Auhona Hoq, transport you to a state of nirvana. After the session, indulge in a complimentary cup of juice from Juiceland and take a leisurely stroll through our newly renovated exhibit, Matter & Motion. Join us for an evening of tranquility and rejuvenation.

*This class is suitable for all levels of yogis, including beginners.

*Yoga mats are not provided.

Celebrate the spirit of Mardi Gras with HMNS! Transport yourself to the vibrant festivities of New Orleans as we take you on a journey through time. Originating in medieval Europe and reaching its grandeur in the 1830s, Mardi Gras became a spectacular celebration in New Orleans, featuring lively street processions, masked revelers on carriages, and horseback riders. Visit us at the craft station in the Grand Hall and make your dazzling jester hat, a symbol of the whimsy and joy of Mardi Gras, after, dance your way to the Farish Hall of Texas Wildlife, where our knowledgeable docents are ready to unravel the fascinating mysteries of the food web, showcasing the intricate connections within the diverse ecosystems of Texas.

April 13, 2024 – Earth Day
8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

Embark on a journey of awe and discovery as we celebrate our beloved home, Earth! Join us in marveling at the wonders of Gaia while our knowledgeable docents share fascinating facts about this magnificent globe. Don’t rush away too soon—linger a while and immerse yourself in creativity at the craft station in the Glassell Hall, where you can craft your unique version of our precious planet. Come, explore, and let the spirit of Earth captivate your senses!

As an extra treat, don’t miss out on our special reading time at 9:30 a.m. in Hamill Hall, located right across from the Matter & Motion Hall. Join us for a delightful session with Dianna Hutts Aston, the author of the book “A Shell Is Cozy.” You can even grab a copy of her book at our Museum Store with your exclusive member discount! It’s a perfect opportunity to enjoy a captivating story in a cozy setting. See you there!
